MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Lawrence Road near Windwood Road,
Lawrence Township

At 1:38 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2004, Lawrence Road Fire Co. was dispatched with Lawrence First Aid Squad to the area of Lawrence Road (Route 206) and Windwood Road for a two-vehicle accident.

Firefighters arrived to find that one of the cars involved in the collision had struck a Verizon utility pole.

The impact had caused heavy damage to the front of the auto and snapped the utility pole in half. A street light on the pole was destroyed and telephone wires hung down to the ground.

The first aid squad's ambulance crew examined the car's 26-year-old driver, who complained of arm and shoulder pain. Ultimately, the man declined a ride to the hospital.

Lawrence Road firefighters stood by with Rescue 22 while workers from PSE&G shut off power to the destroyed street light and a tow truck removed the wrecked car. Rescue 22 returned to Station 22 by 2:27 p.m.

Police and state Department of Transportation crews kept that section of Lawrence Road closed while Verizon workers replaced the destroyed utility pole and rehung the phone wires. The road was reopened about 6:15 p.m.
