ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT
Date & Time: Monday, April 9, 2007 – 9:19 a.m.
Location: Lawrence Road (Route 206) in the area of Rider University, Lawrence Township, N.J.
Details: Crews from the Lawrence Road, Slackwood, and Lawrenceville fire companies responded with Rescue 22, Rescue 21 and Rescue 23 to a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. Firefighters arrived to find a Ford F-150 pickup truck on its side with the driver still inside and a nearby utility pole completely split in half. The female driver was found standing inside the flipped pickup. She complained of no injuries and did not want firefighters to cut her vehicle to extricate her. The woman had apparently lost control of her vehicle while driving to work. The pickup drifted off the road and flipped over after striking the utility pole. Firefighters stabilized the pickup with Junkyard Dog struts from Rescue 22. Rescue 23’s crew stood by with a charged 1.75-inch hoseline from Rescue 22 while the crews from Rescue 22 and Rescue 21 cut away the windshield to free the woman, who refused medical attention. The extrication was completed by 9:34 a.m. Rescue 22 remained on scene until the wreckage was removed by a tow truck and utility crews secured the severed pole. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 10:12 a.m.
