ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT
Date & Time: Saturday, July 28, 2007 – 10:55 a.m.
Location: Federal City Road and Brandon Road, Lawrence Township, N.J.
Details: It was 10:55 a.m. when Mercer County Central transmitted Box 23-10 and dispatched all three Lawrence Township fire companies for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Federal City Road and Brandon Road. Also dispatched EMS personnel from Capital Health System and Pennington Borough First Aid Squad. Upon arrival, rescuers found that a Honda CRV and a Ford Expedition had collided. The force of the impact propelled the Honda onto the front lawn of 165 Federal City Road, where it came to rest atop a row of hedges and a decorative brick wall. The driver of the Honda was unconscious and trapped inside the wreckage. After stabilizing the vehicle and stretching a pair of 1.75-inch hoselines from Rescue 22 into a protective position, firefighters removed the rear passenger’s side door and helped EMS personnel remove the injured man. The man was freed within 15 minutes and was then rushed by ambulance to the trauma center at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton. The driver of the Ford was not trapped, but was hurt. His injuries were not as serious as the Honda’s driver, but he was still transported to the hospital for treatment. Apparatus that operated on scene included Rescue 22, Rescue 21 and Utility 23. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 11:57 a.m.
