STRUCTURE FIRE
Date & Time: Sunday, June 8, 2008 – 9:36 p.m.
Location: 1337 Lower Ferry Road, Ewing Township, N.J.
Details: At 9:31 p.m. Mercer County Central transmitted Box 32-10 and dispatched the Pennington Road (Station 32), West Trenton (Station 33), and Prospect Heights (Station 31) fire companies for a possible house fire. At 9:34 p.m. West Trenton Assistant Chief Chris Hoarn arrived on location and reported he had smoke showing from the rear of a one-story single-family dwelling. As a result, Mercer County Central at 9:36 p.m. retoned all three Ewing fire companies for a working fire and dispatched Rescue 22 from Lawrence Road Fire Co. to the scene for rapid intervention team duties. Because it was a hot and humid evening, an extra engine company (Engine 21 from Slackwood Fire Co.) was called to the scene as a precaution at 9:45 p.m. Rescue 22’s crew set up as the RIT in front of the house while Ewing firefighters battled the blaze, which was in the basement. Ultimately, the flames were contained to the basement and the fire was declared under control at 10 p.m. Rescue 22 remained on location throughout overhaul operations and then cleared the scene with the rest of the apparatus about 11:03 p.m. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 11:14 p.m. Apparatus that operated on the scene included: Engine 32, Rescue 32, Engine 33, Ladder Tower 33, Engine 33-1, Rescue 33, Engine 31, Squirt 31, Rescue 22 and Engine 21.
