STRUCTURE FIRE
Date & Time: Sunday, June 22, 2008 – 2:59 p.m.
Location: 48 Rickard Court, Lawrence Township, N.J.
Details: At 2:59 p.m. Mercer County Central transmitted Box 23-60 for a structure fire at the Lawrence Square Village complex after a 911 call was received reporting that a clothes dryer was on fire inside a second-floor laundry room. Dispatched at that time were units from Lawrenceville (Station 23), Lawrence Road (Station 22), Slackwood (Station 21) and Mercerville (Station 12) fire companies. Arriving on scene at 3:04 p.m., Engine 12’s crew reported smoke showing from the apartment building and immediately began stretching a 1.75-ince hoseline up to the second floor to begin attacking the fire. Mercer County Central, meanwhile, redispatched all three Lawrence fire companies for a working fire. A rapid intervention team from West Windsor Fire Co. (Station 43) was also dispatched at 3:10 p.m. Engine 22 reached the scene at 3:10 p.m. and laid a 200 feet of 5-inch hose to a hydrant to supply Engine 12. Engine 22’s crew then reported to the third floor to check for extension above the burning laundry room. Ultimately, the fire was contained to the laundry room, which was badly damaged. After checking the third floor, Engine 22’s crew assisted with ventilation and overhaul in the laundry room. During the fire, Rescue 22’s crew stood by as the rapid intervention team, while Rescue 22’s driver (Ff. Shaun Dlabik) used the apparatus cascade to refill 10 SCBA bottles. Pennington Borough’s Engine 51 and Princeton Fire Department’s Ladder Tower 62 relocated to Station 22 to cover Lawrence Township during the blaze. Apparatus that operated on the fireground included: Telesquirt 23 Ladder Tower 23, Engine 22, Rescue 22, Snorkel 21, Engine 12, Rescue 43, and Rehab 174 (Trenton EMS). All Lawrence Road units were back in quarters by 5:11 p.m.
