STRUCTURE FIRE
Date & Time: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 – 9:19 p.m.
Location: 23 Delaware Avenue, Ewing Township, N.J.
Details: At 9:13 p.m. Mercer County Central dispatched all three Ewing Township fire companies for a reported house fire. Prospect Heights Lieutenant 31-1 arrived on the scene within minutes to report fire showing from the front of the dwelling. As a result, Mercer County Central retoned all Ewing station for a working fire and, at 9:19 p.m., dispatched Lawrence Road’s Rescue 22 to the scene for rapid intervention team duties. Rescue 22 responded at 9:22 p.m. and arrived at 9:33 p.m. The blaze, which was caused by an oil or grease flareup on the stovetop, was knocked down by 9:34 p.m. and contained to the kitchen by Ewing firefighters. Ewing Ff. Robert Jobst Jr. received minor burns on his left wrist while fighting the fire, according to police reports. Rescue 22’s crew stood by as the RIT during overhaul operations, then was released at 10:36 p.m. Rescue 22 was back in quarters at Station 22 by 10:48 p.m. Apparatus that operated at the fireground included: Engine 33, Engine 33-1, Rescue 33, Telesquirt 32, Rescue 32, Ladder Tower 31, Engine 31-1, and Rescue 22.
