OVERTURNED VEHICLE
Date & Time: Tuesday, July 8, 2008 – 9:07 a.m.
Location: Princeton Avenue at Lanning Avenue, Lawrence Township, N.J.
Details: All three Lawrence Township fire companies were dispatched at 9:07 a.m. for an overturned vehicle with possible entrapment. Slackwood Assistant Chief Mike Oakley arrived on scene at 9:10 a.m. to find that a car and a pickup truck had collided, with the force of the impact having knocked the pickup on its side. As there was no entrapment, all responding units were recalled except Rescue 21 and Rescue 22. According to police, the accident occurred when the pickup, being driven by a 38-year-old Trenton man, attempted to make a left turn onto Lanning Avenue from the southbound side on Princeton Avenue and was struck on its passenger’s side by the northbound car being driven by a 77-year-old Ewing woman. The pickup’s driver was not hurt and was able to crawl from the overturned truck on his own prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. The car’s elderly driver and her passenger complained of pain following the crash and were taken by ambulance to Capital Health System at Fuld hospital for treatment. Rescue 22’s crew stood by with a charged hoseline until both wrecked vehicles were towed away. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 10:02 a.m.
