STRUCTURE FIRE
Date & Time: Friday, July 11, 2008 – 4:29 p.m.
Location: Mercer Wrecking, 1519 Calhoun Street, Ewing Township, N.J.
Details: Prospect Heights (Station 31), Pennington Road (Station 32) and West Trenton (Station 33) fire companies were all dispatched on Box 31-10 after someone from Mercer Wrecking called 911 to report there was a fire burning amid the 50,000 square feet of trash stored inside the facility’s enormous warehouse. Squirt 31 arrived at 4:27 p.m. to find heavy smoke issuing from the building. An extra engine from Enterprise Fire Co. (Station 14-2) was later special-called to the scene. Rescue 22’s crew arrived at 4:38 p.m. and stood by as the rapid intervention team while other crews battled the fire using the master streams from Squirt 31 and Ladder Tower and a front-end loader to break apart the massive pile of trash. The fire was officially declared under control at 5:09 p.m. but crews continued to flow water for another hour. Apparatus that operated on the scene included: Squirt 31, Engine 31-1, Engine 31, Engine 32, Ladder Tower 33, Engine 33-1, Engine 21, Rescue 22, and Engine 14-2.
