| Details: At 9:36 p.m., after Lawrence Township police received a frantic 911 call from a resident reporting his bedroom on fire, Mercer County Central transmitted Box 21-13 and dispatched the Slackwood (Station 21), Lawrence Road (Station 22), Lawrenceville (Station 23) and Prospect Heights (Station 31) fire companies for a structure fire. Additional personnel from the Pennington Road (Station 32) and Enterprise (Station 14-2) fire companies were dispatched after Slackwood Chief Robert Santello arrived on scene and reported that he had heavy smoke issuing from the left side of a 2.5-story duplex, with fire visible on the second floor. Engine 22, the first apparatus to arrive, pulled up in front of the fire building at 9:39 p.m. Engine 22’s crew immediately stretched a 1.75-inch hoseline inside and up to the second floor to attack the fire. The next-arriving crews helped establish a water supply and vent the building. Telesquirt 22’s crew, meanwhile, forced entry into the right side of the duplex to check for fire extension. Ultimately, the blaze was contained to the front bedroom on the second floor and the fire was declared under control at 9:59 p.m. Investigators later determined that the fire had been sparked by a space heater that had been placed too close to a mattress. Apparatus that operated on scene included: Engine 21-1, Snorkel 21, Engine 22, Telesquirt 22, Rescue 22, Ladder Tower 23, Telesquirt 23, Squirt 31, Rescue 32, and Engine 14-2. All Lawrence Road apparatus and personnel were back in quarters by 11:27 p.m.
